Oceans Gold is on exhibition at the Belle Isle Aquarium (3 Inselruhe, Detroit), June 9th - June 18th. The aquarium is open Friday - Sunday, 10:00am - 4:00pm.
This artwork is an abstract reflection of the transformation that take place as plastics enter our bodies of water, begin to break down and affect our ecosystem. Oceans Gold is submitted in support of the United Nations Goal 14: Life Below Water. In the painting, Oceans Gold, the various yellow, gold and copper tones represent light and strength of the oceans, the darker undertones of various shades of green and blue represent the dark change from plastic (represented by the whitish color and texture) build up over time. I’ve taken walks along the oceans, lakes, rivers and other bodies of water, blind to the amount of plastics (and other pollutants), even more so blind to the level of initiative and support that help clean and sustain our Great Lakes and other bodies of water. I attempt to express my own personal emotions in this painting through the use of strong knife strokes, flowing paint and an array of bold and beautiful colors that can be found in many of our lakes, oceans and other bodies of water.
